Our Grassroots Approach Aimed At Enhancing Mental Health Support In The Workplace

Zolve Environmental undertook a project called Wellbeing by Design, which is aimed at enhancing mental health support within the workplace through a grassroots approach. The objective was to build capacity to identify and appropriately engage with individuals who may be at risk or struggling with mental health issues while working to remove the stigma and negative perceptions surrounding mental health and vulnerability.

The initiative involved creating a supportive environment where employees could feel comfortable addressing mental health concerns. This included being trustworthy and confidential, approachable and empathetic, and confident in handling difficult conversations about mental health. Additionally, the project required active participation in team meetings and debriefs, as well as developing relationships with Employee Assistance Program (EAP) providers.

Although the role did not involve providing counselling or resolving underlying issues, it focused on intervention and engagement to guide workers towards appropriate support services. This involved being visibly available to all employees through various channels, engaging with workers when concerns arose, participating in training to recognize and address potential risks, and assisting employees in accessing relevant support services. The approach aimed to support and champion the Wellbeing by Design Strategy and its initiatives, while maintaining confidentiality and providing feedback on the overall wellbeing of the workforce.
