Comprehensive Firearms Policy & Systems Development For Environment Canterbury
Zolve Environmental developed a comprehensive Firearms Policy for Environment Canterbury (ECan) to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, the Arms Regulations 1992 and its amendments, and applicable Best Practice Guides. The policy establishes a consistent approach for the use, storage, and management of firearms across the organization.
The primary purpose of this policy is to create a framework for firearms management within ECan, with additional Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and management tools aligned with its guidelines. It sets clear expectations for firearms selection, storage, transportation, training, and competency.
The policy applies to all ECan employees involved in firearms-related activities, including those engaging contractors, grant recipients, and volunteers. It details requirements for the security and storage of firearms, transportation, purchasing, selling, and disposal. Additionally, it includes provisions for monitoring and auditing firearms use and outlines emergency procedures for incidents involving firearms. Drawing on the wide scope of qualifications and experience from the team this project was delivered in consultation with various stakeholders from Environment Canterbury.
