Aratu Forests Environmental Strategy Development

Zolve Environmental has been engaged by Aratu Forests to conduct a comprehensive review and redevelopment of their environmental management processes, strategies, and implementation, focusing on the Tairāwhiti, Gisborne region, which was heavily impacted by recent cyclones. This complex and critical project is vital to the future success of Aratu Forestry in the region. 

The project includes the development of a company-wide Environmental Strategy, which will guide the organization’s approach to sustainability and environmental stewardship. We are also working on aligning related policies, procedures, and annual operating plans to ensure that Aratu Forests can achieve its environmental objectives effectively. 

Given the high-risk and erodible nature of certain lands in the Gisborne area, part of our work involves evaluating and advising on sustainable land use options for these vulnerable areas. Additionally, we are focused on the training and development of operational management and staff to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to implement these strategies successfully. 

An important aspect of this project is engaging with local iwi, ensuring that Aratu Forests' operations align with social license objectives and respect the cultural and environmental values of the community. This holistic approach is designed to build a resilient and sustainable future for Aratu Forests in the Tairāwhiti Gisborne region.
